I would venture to guess that the wearer of these shoes likes to be comfortable whenever possible. He/she (let's say, Alex, keeping it gender neutral) is wearing a pair of shoes that are well-loved. To me, this says that Alex either has only a few pairs of shoes or has several and only wears a few pairs the majority of the time. The popped seams and worn edges of the soles further give the impression that the shoes are simply for comfort, not for looks. The absence of shoelaces says to me that this person is laid-back. Alex probably has several friends that are attracted to his/her zen personality. He/she is probably fairly tolerant of most people and indecisive or neutral when making decisions in a group. Given the brand of these shoes and the inferences that I have already made, I would say that this person thinks he/she is not affected by the ever-changing views of the majority. Alex does what he/she wants because he/she wants to do it--not because everyone else is doing it. However, these shoes are part of a trend that has been around for a few years. Instead of buying a pair that looks just like them at Walmart for less, this person bought name-brand Converse shoes. To me, this says that this person was either affected by the styles of the majority or is still affected by it. He/she not only wanted shoes that looked the part but were right brand. Alex probably wears comfortable jeans that are probably on the baggy side--or sweatpants--and t-shirts whenever possible.
A traveler. Someone who has enjoyed the experience of the journey in these shoes. Even though the shoes may not be as structurally efficient as when new the wearer finds them nearly irreplaceable - this person is probably loyal not only to the shoes but to friends & most likely has many friends. More concern for others than self. Enjoys diversity and is not concerned about differences, appearances or cultural consistencies & enjoys life's simple comforts.
This person is easy-going....sits back in a crowd & listens. Enjoys comfort and a worn in shoe is best. I think this person also has issues with change.
Her name is Lydia and she's 17. Her mother would prefer that she stop wearing this pair of shoes because they look so worn. Twice, Lydia has pulled these shoes out of the 'donate box' that her mother tried to sneak them into without Lydia's knowledge. Lydia comes from a family that makes enough money to provide more than a few pairs of worn shoes for her but she doesn't care. This is her style, they're comfortable, and she doesn't care what her mom or anyone else thinks about her shoes or her ripped jeans and band/concert t-shirts that she sports almost daily. Actually, as a 17 year old she does care what some people think about her style...her friends...and they dress the same way and claim they don't care either. Lydia is passionate, smart, doesn't always apply herself, and wants to go to college and major in French or music education. She's never had a huge circle of friends but she does have two best friends, Sam and Jenny, with whom she shares everything. She's otherwise guarded but friendly yet highly independent.
Hipster, cares about looking like he/she doesn't care. Scours thrift stores for the perfect articles of clothing to give off the impression that their mind is involved with way more important things than shoes or clothing. Not interested much in sport or athleticism; more involved in feats of the mind than the body.
These shoes have a story. People in my past who have worn shoes like this love them and wear them till they die (the shoes) then grieve their passing, and remember all of the memories they had in them and where the shoes went with them. These people tend to be very close with their friends and rather unique and love adventures.
I have a feeling this is a girl, in middle school. She enjoys the look of her shoes. The dirt and scuff marks that shape her looks. She is not as self conscious as some of her classmates and likes to go against the popular styles that define people of her age. She's her own person, and individual.
Too bad we can't write about the setting in which the shoes are standing, because it's very dark and mysterious. I feel like she has a bad relationship with her parents or something.
At first glance one might assume that the wearer doesn't care about her looks, but I think that's the point she's trying to make. I think these shoes were carefully chosen because of their worn appearance. Maybe they're a sort of security blanket, and whenever she wears them she feels as if she could conquer anything.

College student
ReplyDeleteEnjoys being different/unique (a newer trait)
Isn't overly fond of change/refuses to let go
Doesn't care to be too tidy.
This person is either really poor, and/or really likes familiarity. She/he does not care what anyone thinks about her/his appearance.

ReplyDeleteThis must be a hipster type person. Probably quirky and cares about this environment. They probably think wearing old shoes is characteristic.
ReplyDeletethis person had an older brother who is no longer with him and to feel close to him he wears his old worn out sneakers.

ReplyDeleteI perceive this person to be in the "grunge" scene. Maybe listens to rock music and likes being "different".
